On Sunday the 19th July Richard Thomson and Samuel Mann set up a facebook page “Keep Neurosurgery in Dunedin” to bring attention to the nonsensical proposal to remove neurosurgery from Dunedin Hospital. The South has joined the fight in large numbers (4200 to date) with heartfelt and reasoned messages.
The 54 pages of messages are a little cumbersome to read in facebook, so here is a pdf of the messages to date (noon 29th July). Expect more attention as people continue to raise this issue with friends and colleagues.

I’m not familiar with the case, being very far across the pond; what is the proposed rationale for making such a move? And how far away is Christchurch from Dunedin?
